PREHNITE
(gemstone meditation)
Dear Prehnite,
my pale green African Queen,
please come share your healing
wisdoms with me.
A quiet companion in meditation
you help me clear the clutter
the hurried life carries.
Lead me to that simple moment
when I finally understand
the graceful spirit that I am
and the full potential
the Universe gladly grants me.
Come sweet Prehnite
and walk with me in dreams.
Together we’ll bring back
the memories of
my life in that other world.
Teach me the art of patience.
Teach me the joy of forgiveness.
Teach me the power of compassion.
Thank you Prehnite,
my majestic friend
for the gentle crystal gifts
you bring me.

Prehnite by Stephanie Pflumm
This softly translucent pale green crystal hasn't really gotten much credit during the first couple of hundred years that we've been acquainted with her. Initially Prehnite was classified as a Zeolite because it usually forms in the same areas and and under similar conditions. Geologists today place it within the Phyllosilicate category which also includes Apophyllite.
Prehnite is a fairly strong crystal, very resistant to pressures and scratching. The crystal is composed of Aluminum, Calcium and Silicon with a few specimens containing small traces of Iron. It is considered a secondary or second stage mineral. This means the crystal did not form during the initial volcanic activity (most Prehnite come from volcanic zones), instead the Prehnite crystals were actually formed by events caused by the volcano, after the fact.
Orthorhombic crystals are extremely rare in Prehnite, most grow in boytroidial or stalactite formations. It is found primarily in fissures and cracks of various igneous stones (Granite, Gneiss etc.). Pale green is the most common color for the gemstone, but it also occurs in yellow to brown colors when Iron is involved and some unusual specimens found in Michigan appear to be pink.
Crystals of Prehnite found in ancient lava flows on Isle Royale in Lake Superior are the only pink specimens known. The pink color actually comes from fine grains of Copper imbedded in the Prehnite. The more and larger the grains are, the pinker the crystal will be.
A Dutch colonel, H. Von Prehn, is credited with discovering Prehnite in 1774 at the Cape of Good Hope in Africa. Early traders nicknamed the gemstone Cape Emerald in hopes of exploiting its green color.
Initially Prehnite was rare, South Africa being the only known location for many years. Eventually pockets of the crystal were found throughout the world, including the US, Canada. Austria, Germany, France and India.
Prehnite's discovery at a time when utilizing crystals for healing or any type of magical practice was highly discouraged prevented any traditions for this stone from developing. Today many are discovering this gentle green stone spirit has much to offer anyone who is willing to take time to meet her.
I highly recommend this gemstone to those working as food servers. It assists you in remembering guests' orders. Plus its ability to awaken your more compassionate and forgiving nature, it helps you to be patient with your more challenging guests. You can also utilize Prehnite's memory capabilities to recall your dreams. Ask your crystal to help you remember, then place it under your pillow before sleeping.
Do you use meditation for relaxing? Prehnite crystals can clear the mind of daily clutter allowing both your body and brain to achieve true calm and real relaxation.
Prehnite crystals will teach you to let go of old memories that hurt you. If you have been avoiding some painful truth, use this crystal to face, understand and rid yourself of that pain. Your past is a series of events that give you opportunities to learn and grow from, not to carry around as festering wounds that never heal. Just as the future will be a new set of experiences rich with chances to create.
This gemstone will help you recognize your true potential within your divine self. It will guide you in fulfilling this potential, even if it is through a mundane life. It eases acceptance of circumstances without allowing for the surrender of your dreams.
Healers may use Prehnite's memory skills in aiding with diagnosis of patients. If you have a patient that is particularly difficult to diagnosis, have them carry a Prehnite for 30 days or so. When they return the crystal, use it in meditation to tap the stone's memory.
The gem is recommended for cleansing the body of toxins, so it may also have some beneficial effects on organs like your bladder, liver or gall bladder.
I would love to hear about any experiences that you have had with Prehnite. Please feel free to email your stories to stephanie@ozarkrockexchange.com
