Some stones I would suggest for helping with grief would include amazonite, azurite, botswana agate, mexacan calcite (aka green onyx), lapis lazuli or denim lapis, magnetite, rainbow obsidian, or ruby zoisite. Also would suggest some things that protect from or dispel negativity such as any obsidian, black tourmaline, selenite, amber, hematite, malachite, rutilated quartz and most fossil based stones. Turquoise is also good for children - helps them to feel they are safe.
Selenite near their bed would be better than in jewelry probably, as would a green onyx carving which are easier to find than beads.

A good mix for a bracelet for a child would be a piece of turquoise with some snowflake obsidian or hematite and some botswana agate, and maybe some garnet for strength and balance. Also white howlite tends to generate a slow calm sense of peace and would be a good addition if you have trouble finding some of the others, as it is a gentle stone and good for children.

Hello everyone'

My ex-husband was killed by a drunk driver on 10/14/09. Between us we have 5 children,My children by him beleive in the power of stones. what I would like to do is make bracelets and necklaces to help them thru this process. If what types of stone would be helpful for them to deal with their grief and help them handle what they are going thru?

If you use beadalon or Easyflex with semi precious gemstone beads you don't generally need a needle, just use the end of the wire. If you want to use pearls or very fine hole beads you can buy silk thread with the needle already attached. I also use a 'big hole' needle, which makes threading easy if you are going to use thread as opposed to Beadalon wire. You need a needle for the very soft stuff to make stretchy bracelets.

Instead of fine needles, I use a 3 inch length of 32 guage wire folded back on itself. It will bend and flex along irregularities in the drill hole and I get hundreds from a small spool that only cost about $3. And best of all since I just fold it over the stringing material I don't spend valualbe time squinting to thread a needle.
