A New Stonehenge

One of the many theories I have heard about Stonehenge and other monolithe type structures around our planet, is the they are marking spots created by or for those from other solar systems. If this is the case then here is something a little cute to consider. I hope it doesn't cause any to get lost. (j/k)

Brewer Ross Smith plans to recreate the original Stonehenge on his property at Margaret River in time for the next summer solstice on December 21.

The structure will be made with 2500 tonnes of granite quarried from Esperance on WA's south coast.

"I'm doing it because I can," Mr Smith told AAP.

England's ruined Stonehenge is now roped off from tourists due to serious erosion.

But anyone visiting the Australian replica will be able to touch and play around a new and complete version of the monument, Mr Smith said.

The Henge, as it will be known, will span 33 metres in a two-hectare area on his Margaret River property.

"I've studied plans of the original and that's what The Henge will look like," Mr Smith said.

"Nowhere in the world has a complete Stonehenge been built.

"I think it will attract a lot of tourists to the region, about 200,000 to 300,000 per year," he said.

It will be hired out for weddings and a visitation fee will be in place, said Mr Smith, an entrepreneur.

"From our point of view, it's a business venture," he said.

The plan has its critics in an area renowned for fine wine, chocolate and cheese.

"It's been mixed (the reaction)," Mr Smith said.

"You're always going to get your knockers but I don't mind.

"Thirty years ago Margaret River was infested with dairy cows and there was no wine here."

Mr Smith says the local council has backed his plan, but it has yet to be approved.

Have you heard the saying were in the Sam Hill is it. I know Washington State's Stonehenge.
Washington State has a Stonehenge of its own, though this one, built by Sam Hill, is a World War I memorial. It overlooks the Columbia River. I have been to the Washington State Stonehenge and it is a great place. If live in the U.S.A. I'll tell you this is a place to go for the energy and healing.
